February 04, 2009 The Spanish Wine Education programme conducted in London at the International Wine & Spirit Centre was a tremendous success for the wines of Spain. The 2 day seminar was a full house with 55 participants including several Masters of Wine, MW students, importers, distributors and educators. According to Diego Magaña, a young winemaker from Navarra that was invited to present his wines at the event: "this shows the interest that the British professionals have for our wines".
On January the 29th a masterclass and tasting of icon Spanish wines was conducted by Pancho Campo MW who was accompanied by Pedro Aznar from Marqués de Riscal, Javier Zacagnini from Aalto, Xavier Gramona from Cavas Gramona, Martin Skelton from Gonzalez Byass, Diego Magaña from Viñedos Magaña and by Bruno Murciano, Spain´s Sommelier of the Year. "It is encouraging to see so many people of such stature interested in our wines, specially coinciding with the Australia Day Tasting. This goes to show that Spanish wines have an important place in the UK market, specially under the current recession" declared Javier Zacagnini.
