Starting on June 12th, the Wine Academy of Spain will begin its 2009-2010 USA tour. Following Catavino’s suggestions, they will give 1 free scholarship per USA city to a blogger. And although the Wine Academy of Spain is on the forefront of education, they are still in the beginning stages of utilizing on-line communication effectively; hence where we come in. WineFuture-Rioja 2009 is an international conference created and owned by The Wine Academy of Spain. This conference, supported by the CRDC Rioja, will be held in the city of Logroño on November 12th and 13th, 2009. The most important world leaders of the wine industry will meet in Rioja to discuss the current challenges that the global wine industry is facing, providing solutions, ideas, strategies and leadership. Some of the topics that will be covered at the conference include the global financial crisis, the environment, how to improve sales, consumption trends, the challenges that the on-trade is going through, brands, marketing strategies and the emerging markets.

The 2009 Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival and Southern Wine & Spirits of America hosted an unprecedented tribute to the wines and foods of Spain held in the presence of Their Majesties, King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia of Spain. This fund raising event took place on Thursday, February 19 in Coral Gables, Miami. Pancho Campo, was one of the guests invited to the “Viva España” gala dinner, as President of The Wine Academy of Spain and first Spanish Master of Wine.

The Spanish Wine Education programme conducted in London at the International Wine & Spirit Centre was a tremendous success for the wines of Spain. The 2 day seminar was a full house with 55 participants including several Masters of Wine, MW students, importers, distributors and educators. According to Diego Magaña, a young winemaker from Navarra that was invited to present his wines at the event: "this shows the interest that the British professionals have for our wines".
